$20/ton - This is based on tons sequestered per acre this is not a per acre price.
5 YEAR LOOK BACK - Have you made a practice change from conventional till to no till, strip till, or reduced till? Have you added cover crops yearly for the last 5 years and plan to continue to do so? Do you do double cropping? All of these items qualify.
Priority acres will be for those changes within the last 4-5 years.
WHOLE FARM OR FIELD - You can sign up 1 field or 100. There is no minimum or maximum.
NO VERIFICATION FEES - The soil sampling and the verification are 100% covered. That means more money in your pocket. The best offering on the market.
You are only selling the last 5 years of credits. You are not selling future credits. That means that there is more money to be made in 2022 and beyond.
20 YEAR DURABILITY PERIOD- What does this mean? This means you plan to continue those practices listed above for the next 20 years to continue holding that carbon in place. What this does NOT mean is that you cannot sell future credits. You are still 100% eligible to sell future credits and in fact it is encouraged. If you have any questions on this please, please, reach out. This is not meant to be nerve racking.
NO RECOURSE - If you lose your rented ground, decide to change practices, have a weather related issue, there is NO recourse. You will simply opt out of the program and be done. There is no need to worry about paying anything back. This goes for any time within the 20 years.
PAYMENT - You will get one lump sum payment in August of 2021 for all 5 years of credits.
GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS - You are still able to use gov't resources on top of this program. So if you are receiving EQIP or CSP dollars you can continue to do so. In fact, it is encouraged.
BASELINE DATA - We will need 3 years of baseline data. That means if you made a change in 2016 we will need data back to 2013. If you made a change in 2017 we will need data back to 2014. If you have not rented a farm that long or cannot provide that data those fields will not qualify.
RENTED GROUND- If you have a rented farm you will need to make sure you get a landowner sign off through a provided attestation.
FINAL CONTRACT - You have the ability to get a soft offer before signing the final contract. Very little risk for a potential big reward.
If you qualify for this program now is a good time to sell. It is unlikely the look back period will go any further than 5 years in the future and if you have made those changes within that time you may not qualify for future programs without adding another practice or making another practice. Most programs are going to be future looking and adding a new practice.
You have already made the change so now is a chance to get paid for something you have already done.
